A wonderful alpine species of Gladiolus from the mountains of South Africa where it grows among rocks. 20cm stems bear brilliant, large blood-red flowers during summer. Can make a good clump with a spread of 20-30cm. Flattened, grass-like foliage. best with sun and good drainage. Dormant in winter, new growth not visible until late spring (if mail ordered in these months it will look like a pot of soil and gravel (!), however a little water and warmth will trigger the bulb into growth).. Hardy with us at Slack Top (nearly 1000ft).
